In a statement issued today, Professor M. A. Barnik, President of Gyanbhittik Samajik Andolon, strongly criticized the interim government's continued disregard for recognizing the heroes and martyrs of the historic July Uprising. He stated that the 2024 July Uprising stands as a landmark moment in Bangladesh’s history. The young men and women who laid down their lives paved the way for democracy and justice with their blood. The nation owes them an eternal debt that cannot be repaid—rather, the highest state honor was due to them.

Regrettably, even after a full year, the government has failed to publish a complete list of the martyrs and the injured. The demand to recognize them as National Heroes has remained unanswered. The very interim government that came to power through the sacrifices of these brave souls has instead set a disturbing precedent of delay and neglect.

Such apathy and lack of accountability have deeply disheartened the nation. The families of the martyrs, the wounded revolutionaries, and the justice-seeking public have all been subjected to a cruel silence.

Through this statement, Gyanbhittik Samajik Andolon strongly demands the following:

1. Immediate publication of a complete list of the martyrs and the injured from the July Uprising.

2. Official declaration of the martyrs as National Heroes, along with appropriate state recognition and support to their families.

3. Full rehabilitation and medical care for the injured and those imprisoned during the movement.

4. Public accountability from the government for this prolonged negligence.

The debt of blood owed to the people must not be ignored—history will not forgive such injustice.
