1. Sensitive Warrant Issue:

The International Crimes Tribunal has recently taken a historic and, at the same time, complex step. Arrest warrants have been issued against 28 accused, including Sheikh Hasina. Among them are 16 military officers—9 retired and 7 currently serving officers. For the first time in Bangladesh’s history, such warrants have been issued against serving senior officers.

2. Internal Context:

The Army Chief attempted to see whether the matter could be resolved under the armed forces’ own laws. However, the complexity of the legal framework and the binding nature of the tribunal’s judgment closed that path. As a result, in accordance with the rules, the serving officers must be disarmed and handed over to police custody. This is undoubtedly a sensitive situation for the army, the police, and the government.

3. Potential Risks:

State stability: There is a risk of a trust deficit forming between the army and the police.

(1) Political unrest: Sheikh Hasina—an old accused with fascist tendencies—and her domestic and foreign collaborators may conspire to destabilize the situation.

(2) Foreign interference: International actors may attempt to influence Bangladesh’s internal military-political tensions.

(3) Internal conspiracies: Any rebellious tendency or internal plotting could put national security at risk.

4. Government Actions:

(1) Firm adherence to lawful procedures:
The warrants must be executed in compliance with the tribunal’s directives—this will demonstrate the government’s respect for the rule of law and the judiciary.

(2) Army–police coordination:
It is essential to preserve trust and coordination between the army and the police during the process of handing the officers over to police custody. For this purpose, a joint task force could be formed.

(3) Strengthen national security surveillance:
Intelligence agencies must remain at the highest level of alert to counter any sabotage, conspiracy, or sudden developments.

5. Maintain internal dialogue and discipline:
By maintaining proper dialogue with the officers’ families and colleagues, it must be made clear that this is not personal but the enforcement of the rule of law.

6. Earning public trust:

The state must explain to the public—that these warrants are in favor of law, justice, and humanity; they are not instruments of vengeance.

7. International diplomatic briefings:
Foreign powers must be clearly informed that this is Bangladesh’s internal legal process and not the result of external pressure. This will help resist international conspiracies.

8. Means of executing the warrants:

Bangladesh now stands at a sensitive crossroads. The execution of these warrants is, on the one hand, a historic opportunity to establish the rule of law, and on the other, a major test of state stability. Sheikh Hasina and her foreign associates may attempt conspiracies at this time—but if the government moves forward firmly, lawfully, and by preserving the unity of the army, police, and the people, this storm can be met.
