1. Bangladesh in a Changing Global Order :

As the world enters the third decade of the twenty-first century, global politics is clearly moving toward a multi-polar structure. In this context, the much-discussed notion of a so-called “Superclub (Core-5 / C-5),” circulating within policy circles associated with former U.S. President Donald Trump, has emerged as an important analytical issue for Bangladesh’s foreign policy.
This is because Bangladesh has traditionally pursued a diplomacy rooted in multilateralism, strategic balance, and non-alignment.

2. The Fundamental Foundations of Bangladesh’s Foreign Policy :

The core philosophy of Bangladesh’s foreign policy, as reflected in the Constitution, is—

> “Friendship to all, malice towards none”

Under this principle, Bangladesh—

Places trust in the United Nations and the multilateral system
Maintains balance and equilibrium among major powers
Prioritizes economic diplomacy and development

From this standpoint, Bangladesh will view the Superclub concept with caution.

3. Possible Implications for Bangladesh if the Superclub Is Formed :

(1). Contraction of Multilateralism :

If the Superclub materializes in practice—

The importance of forums such as the G20 or the United Nations may decline
Small and middle-income states may be pushed further away from the core of decision-making

➡️ This could create a risk of marginalizing the voice of countries like Bangladesh.

(2). New Pressure on the U.S.–China Balance :

At present, Bangladesh—

Maintains trade relations and access to labor markets with the United States
Engages in infrastructure development and investment with China
—thus preserving a strategic balance between these two poles.

If these two powers coordinate within a single forum through the Superclub, Bangladesh may face unilateral pressure or demands to clarify its position.

(3). Indian Geopolitical Reality :

India is Bangladesh’s closest and most important neighbor.
India’s inclusion in the Superclub—

May further enhance India’s influence in regional diplomacy
May constrain Bangladesh’s strategic autonomy on South Asian issues

This could add new dimensions, particularly to issues of water sharing, borders, and trade.

4. Security and the Indo-Pacific Context :

The Indo-Pacific region is likely to receive special emphasis in Superclub discussions.
In this context—

Bangladesh may face increased pressure to become involved in military alliances
Whereas Bangladesh believes in strategic autonomy and a policy of de-militarization

➡️ Therefore, Dhaka would prefer economic connectivity in the region, not military bloc politics.

5. The Rohingya Crisis and Humanitarian Diplomacy :

One of Bangladesh’s major foreign policy challenges is the Rohingya crisis.
Among the five potential members of the Superclub—

China and Russia are close to Myanmar
The United States and Japan are active on human rights issues

Due to this division, the Superclub may fail to generate effective pressure on the Rohingya issue—which is a matter of concern for Bangladesh.

6. Possible Strategic Courses of Action for Bangladesh :

✔️ Strengthening Multilateral Forums

Bangladesh needs to be more active in—

The United Nations
NAM
OIC
BIMSTEC

By using these platforms to strengthen the collective voice of small states.

✔️ Prioritizing Economic Diplomacy

Trade, labor markets, and investment must be kept above politics, while maintaining an interest-based diplomatic approach.

✔️ Maintaining Principled Neutrality

Rather than engaging in direct confrontation with the Superclub—

Observer
Partner
—remaining in these positions and preserving strategic flexibility would be the most prudent course.

7. Lessons and Cautionary Signals for Bangladesh :

Trump’s proposed Superclub concept represents for Bangladesh—

On the one hand, an indication of a new global center of power
On the other hand, a warning sign of the weakening of multilateralism

In final analysis, this concept offers a lesson for Bangladesh’s foreign policy—
👉 National interests must be protected through principles, balance, and multilateralism, without becoming entangled in the power games of major states.
