1. The Expectations of the July Revolution Misguided:

The July 2024 Revolution opened a new door of possibilities in the history of Bangladesh. The blood of the martyrs, the sacrifices of the youth, and the expectations of the people were directed toward—a new state structure, a new constitution, and the genuine transfer of power to the people. But in reality, what happened was this—Nobel Laureate Dr. Muhammad Yunus, who had taken charge of power with the trust of the leaders of the revolution, repeatedly misdirected that expectation.

2. The Carrot of the July Charter:

In the aftermath of the revolution, Dr. Yunus had promised—

Implementation of the July Charter,

Election of a Constituent Assembly,

And restructuring of the state through a new constitution.

But soon he deviated from that path and created an ineffective body called the “National Consensus Commission.” The purpose was to show—that the reform of the state structure was underway. In reality, this commission turned into a toothless giant; essentially nothing more than an instrument of procrastination. Thus, a whole year passed, but the people saw no tangible progress.

3. The London Scandal — Story of a Secret Deal:

Instead of realizing the spirit of the revolution, calculations of political power seemed to take precedence. Secretly traveling to London, Dr. Yunus reached a political understanding with Tarique Rahman, the Acting Chairman of BNP.

As a result, a joint declaration emerged,

Yet the entire nation was kept in the dark about this event,

Which will remain marked in history as the “London Scandal.”

The real aim of this scandal was to ensure the February 2026 election by any means. The goal of the revolution was not the priority; rather, the compromise of power-sharing became the central issue.

4. The Drama of Dialogue — A BNP-Centric Strategy:

On the basis of the London deal, dialogue began—

On August 31 with BNP, Jamaat, and NPP,

On September 2 with seven more parties,

And then step by step, further dialogues followed.

But these dialogues were nothing more than a game of formality. Outside of BNP’s circle, no party fell into this trap.

The dialogues contained no discussion of changing the state structure,

No assurance of implementing the July Charter,

Rather, everything was revolving within the scheme of the February election.

5. Betrayal of the Spirit of the Revolution and the Blood of the Martyrs:

A question arises—does Dr. Yunus truly embody the spirit of the revolution?

If today, standing on the blood of the martyrs, he rushes to organize the February election,

Then history will say—he has buried the very goal of the revolution.

The July Revolution was not merely for a change of power. Its aim was to build a new Bangladesh free from exploitation. But through the Yunus–Tarique London compromise, that aim is being overshadowed today.

6. Betrayal:

The February election under Dr. Muhammad Yunus has now become a mockery before the nation. The responsibilities entrusted by the leaders of the revolution, the pledges of the July Charter, and the blood of the martyrs—all have been sacrificed as he has entangled himself in the trap of international pressure and partisan compromise.

If the February election is held under the shadow of the London Scandal, it will not be remembered in history as a new dawn of democracy; rather, it will be marked as a betrayal of the revolution.
